BATHANS is a boutique distillery and mead manufacturer based in Wellington, New Zealand. The company sources the best mono-floral clover honey and high-quality Manuka honey which make up the key ingredients to Bathans signature products – BATHANS GOLD® botanical somel and the LONG NOSE MEAD. “Somel” is a Latin term meaning only honey.
Bathans distillery is a majority family owned and operated company that evolved from a successful export operation taking New Zealand’s renowned clover comb and Manuka honey into East and South-East Asian countries, but which unfortunately ran head-first into a global pandemic during 2020. The family turned its mind towards fermenting and distilling.

BATHANS GOLD® botanical somel is a warm, golden-coloured spirit that exudes honey and citrus on the nose with spice and oak flavours on the palate. With a woody, long, elegant finish, BATHANS GOLD® is best imbibed neat or with a cube or two of ice. Our BATHANS GOLD® recipe has been finely tuned over years from the best quality Central Otago, New Zealand, honey, blended with a curated recipe of botanicals and spices, chosen for their uplifting, positive attributes, and through an alchemic process turned these ingredients into gold – BATHANS GOLD®.
THE LONG NOSE MEAD
Mead is the traditional drink of happiness and honeymoons.
The Long Nose Mead is a balanced blend of organic manuka and rewarewa honey, each adding different characteristics to this summery drink. Our Long Nose Mead is fermented and aged in French oak barrels for over two years. With oak, honey and fruit on the nose, the Long Nose Mead has a buttery, dry, refreshing taste with a slight citrus finish. The absence of sulphites makes this a great alternative to wine for those who suffer from allergies.
